You Are Your Own Business
The career preparation schools don’t provide
I currently work as an instructor who teaches adults how to be computer literate. I’ve never thought of my work as a business. Growing up, I had never heard anyone discuss work or oneself as a business, especially not from my parents or the schools I attended. There was only one time I had heard from my dad that his friend told him that he should see himself as a business. And I have recently encountered this topic again from a book I am I reading right now called, ‘Thou Shall Prosper’, by Rabbi Daniel Lapin.
What is Business?
Most people think of corporations when they hear the term ‘business’. That, and small shops, have been my belief for the longest time, until now.
Rabbi Daniel Lapin, in his book ‘Thou Shall Prosper’, talks about how people in the Jewish community are taught that their line of work is their business. He also brought up a good point about how this belief created better opportunities for these workers who thought of their ‘job’ as their ‘business’.
